Sexual and gender diversity exists everywhere and is expressed locally in a variety of important and valid ways.  Enhancing agency, protecting human rights, and capacity-building to celebrate diverse sexual orientations and gender identities is an important individual, community, and society endeavor. It is also a significant focus of legal and policy form domestically and internationally.

Having worked on sexual orientation and gender identity, expression and sex characteristics internationally, including in developing and post-conflict nations, the DAYLIGHT approach is explicitly sensitive to local environments, respectful, and inclusive of indigenous leaders and activists, and considerate of local cultural contexts.

DAYLIGHT's work on sexuality and gender includes training and capacity building that is narrowly tailored to culturally competent trajectories for change.  DAYLIGHT takes an intersectional approach that recognizes that queer communities exist everywhere and that all communities have the capacity to grow and embrace diversity.  We do not presume primacy or supremacy in Western or developed nations' values.  DAYLIGHT embraces an approach that rejects both heteronormativity and homonormativity,  amplifying the voices of indigenous activists and community organizations.  Inclusive communities based on intersectionality, respect, and mutual recognition offer the greatest potential for meaningful growth and change.
